The Pool
Berlin

— A manifest

THE POOL BERLIN is an open space — for freedom, peace, respect, tolerance, unity, curiosity, cooperation and process.

The Pool Berlin is an open collective of Berliners active in the minimal and experimental techno scene. The group has its origin in private meetings at Dr.Nojoke's kitchen, started in 2014 as a platform for like-minded producers, DJs, VJs, supporters and fans — and for getting in touch with the international artists passing through Berlin.

We invite everybody to participate in this process — artists, musicians, producers as well as fans, audience, any other interested or creative people, and our international friends of course. Let's share our thoughts, concerns, doubts and happiness — and transform them into something productive, constructive, positive.

Notes

— On running
a small pool

In 2014, Dr.Nojoke started the Pool Berlin group — a social body for sharing inspiration, ideas and manpower. The idea grounded in a wide, international network gathered by Dr.Nojoke, Demas, Sven Laux and many others.

One of the first projects was PLO — a live improvisation act born out of open jam sessions with resident artists and guests. Soon after came POOLcast, our monthly podcast series, now in its third year. And once our friendship and network had a name, it was only a matter of time before we would publish music on our own imprint: POOLtracks.

The Kitchen started as our own event series — intimate evenings in small venues, a lab space for performances, works in progress, jam sessions and workshops, for communication, knowledge transfer, drinking, having fun and getting to know each other. Today it lives on in private as Secret Kitchen: same format, same warmth, fewer flyers — a place for our friends from Berlin and from all over the world passing through.

Who we are

— Core & orbit

The core of the Pool is Dr.Nojoke, Demas, Sven Laux, Ann Other and Sebastian Mehl — who together curate the podcast series, run the label, host the Kitchen sessions and play in PLO.

Around that core moves a wider orbit of international friends and recurring guests, among them David Last, Ingemar Stalholm, Pachyderme, The Automatic Messages, Elysée, Attentat, Dugong, Yes Ma'am, Matt and Mark Thibideau and Dinelka. Anyone who has played a Pool session counts as part of the pool.
